This thread represents why deere is successful.

Too often I hear the comment...oh it is green so people buy it...NOT.

Deere EARNED that business...just read this thread.

In the early 60's deere had those stone age 2 cyl machines and they were not a market leader.

When the 'new generation' came out it was a MASSIVE move forward...unmatched comfort and features...closed center...power shift...the list goes on and on.
It took IH decades to catch, but then it was way too late. Yes, there were other things that did not help...but in the end, their equipment did not measure up to the 10 then 20 and then 30 series deere tractors with SG cabs. Add to this there second to none parts systems and you have a company that you can count on. That is how they took over number one...nothing to do with paint colour.

It is not smoke and mirrors that make a market leader...it is the equipment. If you don't believe that then you are choosing not to for other reasons IMO.

I also agree that they kept the SG cab and the 60 series too long, but there was nothing they could do. The 8000's were on their way and we all know what happens if you rush things like that to market. Those 8000's represented another quantum leap forward in tractor tech and ergonomics that ended up being copied feature by feature by red.

I think today the market is matured a bit and the competition is pretty healthy and no one company can rest on their laurels...good for us farmers IMO.
