I would disagree that a "traditional" farm supplies 100% income without any side jobs or custom work. You alluded to it below with your rural social structure post. You can't have it all, immediately. It takes a village to raise a farmer, ha! Not everyone has the specific equipment, skills or time to do every job. Drawing borders around farms and proclaiming that you can't generate income from anything (and are not a true farmer if you do) but the production off of those acres is hogwash.
