Subject: RE: What is a family farm

I will take a stab at it, although there are probably a lot of different answers.

If you are owned totally by family, whether it be sole proprietor, partnership or corporation you are a family farm. I am not so sure number of employees has anything to do with it.

I consider our farm to be a family farm although there are two entities that make it up.

The cash grain operation is a corporation owned by my brother and I, my brother owns stock but does not actively work on the farm.

Our produce operation is owned by my wife and I. The only time we have employees is during strawberry harvest, when we have more then 40 people that work for us. That is only for about a 3 week period.

In your definition we would not be considered a family farm, I would disagree with you.
