I agree it is good to see full farm results before investing in strip till. Depending on where you are located I would contact whatever manufacturers you are interested in and see if they have a dealer with a customer running their equipment near your farm who could share his experience and maybe do some custom work for you. I know many of our Dawn strip till customers get requests to do custom work when neighbors know they have a strip till system.
Thanks to the U of MN for an excellent job of putting on the demos in Lamberton and Waseca. I would have liked a bit more room to set the machine for the field condiiton and some ground which had not been driven over quite so much but they made a very good attempt to be fair and uniform to everyone.
I do think you want to be careful about making too much out of these summer, oat straw demos. What you saw yesterday may have little in common with how a machine handles in heavy corn on corn residue in the fall or spring. Best thing to do is to find someone who is using the machine and talk to him.
