dko_scOH - 11/22/2012 17:06 There are over seven billion people on the planet and it is already impossible for them all to live the way we do. Not enough arable land, fresh water, fish in the sea, etc. So, in a sense, we are approaching Earth's carrying capacity right now. Technology will help some but there are also some hard limits. How much of the earth's arable land isn't producing anything close to its potential? How much arable land is there in the world that isn't even being used productively at all? CRP/CREP/etc in the USA can be included in the non-productive arable land category. Organic production can be included in the "not anywhere close to its potential" catergory. Overall I think drinking water is a much bigger concern for most of the worlds population. About the only thing worse than the amount of food wasted in this country is the amount of water people waste making lawns green where they otherwise wouldn't be. |
