I think people in the US are living very privileged lives today that were made possible by a lot of things that people don't want in their backyard now. The big brouha over frac sand mining is one example of that. Its not that much different from gravel pits. Companies have been mining gravel for decades to build roads, will people be willing to do without roads in the future because they don't want trucks driving past their neighborhood to build roads in someone else's neighborhood (in other words, if it doesn't fit their self-interest)? I agree that the easiest way for everyone to get a bigger piece of the resources is by having fewer people. I'm sure its not politically correct, but seems like the people who have the fewest resources worldwide are the ones that are having the most babies. There's definately a disconnect from reality, maybe if the men spent more time working and less time procreating....
