I wonder if you have considered decreasing the population and fertility regimen on the poor soils? Fertilize for that 125 bushel top yield, and decrease the population to 12k. You might be surprised what happens. The lower nitrogen regimen will lead to lower vegetative growth, which will preserve your soil moisture for grain fill.
