I just had one like that take a week to figure it out. The calf was aggressive so he sucked by himself after he annoyed the heifer until she got tired and gave up fighting him. I never had to put her in the head gate just lock them in a small pen together. As the calf gets stronger you probably won't have to do anything but keep them together in a small pen but it may take awhile.
