Could also be that the cow that falls back by two months is just less fertile, but after weaning a calf two months early, she had time to correct the problems that caused her to be late is now able to hang with the rest of the herd.
Or not and it's all somewhat random. I want to always push toward improving the fertility of my herd but in this market I don't want to be a martyr for the sake of stubbornness.
What's your experience with a shorter breeding season?
