If you know the right COM-port from the Control Panel (see other post) and you do have baudrate etc., try Hyperterminal and check if you can "see" the NMEA information from the GPS. If it does use NMEA you can basically read the strings in Hyperterminal.
You can find it under Accessories/Communications.
If that does not help you could use a serial monitor program...
