Subject: Did AT&T live up to its rural broadband promises?

Mississippi

When AT&T negotiated to buy Bellsouth, it promised to widely bring broadband to rural areas served by Bellsouth. That was a commitment to the FCC in order to win approval for the merger/buyout.

A journalist I know, Gerald Smith, asked me today if I thought that promise had been kept. I'd written some about that during the first phase.

But to be honest with him, I said I wasn't sure if service, in fact, had been widened to that point now.

Here's my question:

If you live in a rural area served by the former Bellsouth, do you now have access to broadband service through AT&T?

If anybody's got strong feeling about how this turned out -- one way or other other -- and wants to voice them, here's Gerald's number: 917-671-7410.
