Subject: DANGER After many years of

Tablerock Ranch eastern Wa
tagging calves occasionally alone ," new edit " aint going to happen any more, Sunday afternoon Jake my 31 year old son and farm manager was tagging fall calvers, he had two of his three kids with him, my eleven year old granddaughter and nine year old grandson, after tagging three calves he approached a group of cows, one got her calf up and tried to sneak it off, seeing it was a untagged calf they followed, Jake explained to the kids how the longer you had to follow a pair the more you had to watch out for a riled up cow, anyway he got them to the point where he had a shot a the calf left the truck and was faced off from twenty yards, in the course of four seconds she put her head down pawed the ground once, he threw his hands up and hollered to back her up, and she took him, now Jake played D end in football and stands six five he was quick and had great moves but he described how fast she was on him, even before his mind could tell him to sidestep, she hit him full speed in the chest and according to him he was on her neck and shoulders going backwards at mach speed when she finally threw him his kids describe a flip through the air at close to ten feet, the grace of God landed him on his feet with a head start towards the pickup as she spun to grind him into the ground, he cleared the hood of the Dodge and was sure she would also but she pulled up at the fender, well God is good to farmers and sure blessed us yesterday with a good outcome, when told what happened my mind raced at the thought of him getting ground to the ground with a 1500 pound cow on top of him, thought two was his kids trying to come to his aid and being hurt or killed, these kids have handled livestock for years and probably would have tried. we enjoyed a closed herd for over ten years before expanding last year out of two other herds, we have had two close calls this year out of new cows and this will be the second pair to go down the road. be careful and don't think you ever have cattle all figured out. Jake's ok with a sore back and ribs
