It’s always been surprising to me that their aren’t more African American farmers in the south than there is....almost none.

I make NO judgment on why that is, just surpassing there were never any hardworking sharecroppers that made the jump to land ownership and expanded from there. In the US there is black and white but the number one color is green.


I observe the same here. I know there were more here in the middle of the 20'th century than now.

My assumption is that the blacks felt less tied to the land, allowed some common sense to prevail, and pursued better paying jobs in the urban areas. Northern Virginia is full of well-to-do blacks and other ethnicities, and some have trickled back here in their retirement.
