You have to take care of yourself, nobody else will. If you get it rented, congratulations. If not, try for the next opportunity. If your FIL can't be happy for you if you're successful, then he's not much of a man. Your wife will come around. If not, then she's just like her dad. In that case, you have my condolences. Btdt. If you approached the landlord years ago, you have no reason for concern about other's feelings.
