| Excessive day time heat in and of itself does not generally impact pollination. You need a second stress present on the plant. There are numerous other stresses that can qualify. Moisture stress/too dry.... insect infestation..... high night time temps.... weed competition.... genetic predisposition of hybrid to fail under heat stress(should never make it to the fields in this day and age) being the main ones. High night time temps are probably the single biggest limiting factor to ultra high corn yields. There is a reason you see the highest average yields attained out in the irrigated Plains areas where they have lower daytime humidity and consistently cool night time temps due to higher elevations. | |
