Hennepin, IL | You dont have to have a masters in agronomy to trade commodities. If you trade by the phrase "rain makes grain" you'll do alright. However most of us in the business understand how much a rain or two in the first half of June actually matter. Maybe I'm too used to looking at my backyard. We were lacking in subsoil moisture "here" and were getting to the point we were waiting for the next rain before the last was gone. Got 5" over 3 days last weekend and the majority soaked in. To give you an idea, I was sidedressing corn thursday and probably could have been going a day sooner. However we're sitting well probably until pollination and look every bit as good as last year with no replant like we had mother's day weekend last year, and we're at least 2 if not 3 weeks ahead of last year. | |
