For what it's worth our harvest crew uses JD 612C heads and this year they have switched to Capello heads. I haven't seen the losses behind the Capello heads in dry corn yet but the JD 612C's were very good. I have a Hugger head and it loses a lot more. If I were cutting very much dryland I would be buying a Drago or a Command 3300 Gleaner head most likely. Regardless, my experience has been that the the volunteer corn is only a problem on the end rows where the kernels get run over and smashed into the ground enough to plant them. Out in the field it does not seem to be an issue because they just sit on top and rot for the most part. However, if pressure is overwhelming that may be different. I imagine Drago's on auction are probably not terribly cost prohibitive but you wouldn't be looking at a GT yet most likely. |
