I think the blanket statement that traits take away yield is not always correct but not always wrong either. In my experience it is hybrid specific. Some hybrids seem to "respond" positively in yield with the addition of some traits, other hybrids react negatively or have what you would call yield drag. In my experience it is not one size fits all.
