Good idea. My dad did this with me about 20 some years ago. Only thing is that got me hooked for life. I had 5 acre's the first year and 10 or so a couple years later. Both corn and beans. I got 10 acre's out of an 80 but it was my job to scout that field and make management decision for the whole field. Kinda a learning experience for agronomy also along with the money side.

I also had a few head of cattle that I feed at that time. Got to sell beans to pay bills and feed the corn. Sold several freezer beef so I got experience with the public and money.

Any experience good or bad will be great character builder.

When I was done with school I had to find my own land if I wanted to keep on farming, no more renting from dad.
