Subject: RE: advice on how to help young kids experience/start farming

Dad did this with me, started at 11 when I started asking lots of questions to dad about why, how and cost etc..., expect it was a 12 acre nub of a farm, at the time prices were not that great either, we had a sharecrop agreement and tracked all the costs on paper, I got to pick the crop, what seed to plant, and ride around or help with that field as I got older. I enjoyed it a lot as a kid and really sparked my interest in farm business and marketing,

At the end of the day what ever was left dad promised me to help me out with my tuition when I got to that point.

Also had some 4-H animals too,

I don't think their needs to be skin directly in the game, just interest to keep going, year after year, and be part of the process, if their is no interest from the kid to do it again the year after, the chances are that they are simply not interested in that segment in agriculture.
