There is an ongoing concern in my local county seat about affordable housing and city/county leaders don't seem to know what to do. My hunch is that the cost to build makes it nearly impossible to generate a decent ROI because local rents won't support the higher levels of rent needed to provide an incentive for someone to build/manage an apartment complex. That said:
1. What would a 10 unit apartment building cost (all in) to build? Is the cost per sq foot comparable to the cost of building a house? Less? More?
2. What would be a typical expected ROI on this type of investment?
3. Any/all thoughts are welcome.
