southwest illinois | Purchasing and placement of seed is a chore.
I was lucky enough we had a small seed company that would bring in seed and tell you placement of the seed to maximize yields at an economical price based on local environment
Naturally, large seed companies are looking to market widely adaptable hybrids, and let's say you farm prime farmland most any hybrid developed has a good chance in any given year to top your plots
But I will start with the premise is that I don't have a clue what growing conditions in 2017 will be and which hybrids will respond to that weather
So that leads me back to luck, and yes it's not socially acceptable to attribute one's success to it. But I will be first one to admit it into any equation, especially if it involves weather.
But generally speaking, small regional companies respond to a farmers need much easier than large multinational corporation | |
