NW Minnesota | Yes, we went to spring strips due to cover crops and fall grazing cattle. I used to run a Yetter shank machine in the fall and I know it wouldn't have worked in the row as well either. The Dawn has disks that chop up the stalk and root ball pretty well. Wheat in the rotation allows us to only have to strip into the same spot two years in a row. First year corn into wheat stubble, and second year soybeans into old corn row. Then wheat into soybean stubble. Root balls were not a big issue this year and I ran row cleaners on the planter. It sometimes left the beans in a small trench, but rolling after planting make everything level again. I am very happy with the soybean stands and it's much easier on the tires. In your strip trial maybe 15" offset 7.5" so it is on either side of old corn row? I used to run my no-till drill that way for soybeans and it worked okay. I like strip till 30" beans better here anyway. | |
