My choice of wire is gaucho, 15 1/2 gage, post spacing depends on the terrain, flat, straight pulls 15ft., curves and hills spacing changes for the type of terrain.
I like H bracing, if you use diagonal braces do not get the top end of the brace above the 4th wire on a 6 strand fence, gives the fence more leverage to pull the end or corner post up.
All brace configurations have to have a brace wire from the bottom of the end or corner to the top of the brace post if it is going to hold. On all outside fence I want 6 strands, as Jim said if you are going to split a field for controlled grazing a hot wire is a good idea.

I don't criticize the folks that use Red Brand, Dad would not have anything else. I can't stretch the wire without breaking it or so loose a calf will crawl through it.
