The truck gvwr plus the trailer gvwr. I have a 1 ton with a 13k gvwr with a trailer that is 25k gvwr. 13+25 = 38000 - wt of truck and trailer = what you can pull legally. That gives you about 20-25k worth of load to haul. Ignore what ford, chevy, or dodge tell you. If you blow it up, make sure it isn't hooked to the trailer when they tow it for warranty work.
