West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12 | I have never understood this statement. Why sit in a recliner? Isn't running tractor, combine, or truck considered farming anymore? That's the easy/fun part.
My grandpa financially retired at 62, my dad financially retired at 62, but they kept farming almost to the day they died. They really enjoyed their "retirement" years just running machinery being paid by the hour to do it. If called upon for consult, they provided those services for free.
I will financially retire at 62, I will keep farming when I have time/feel like it to the day I die also...if my nephew wants to hire me. If not, one of the young neighbors will...they'll probably pay better than my nephew anyhow. :)
A person loses the "edge". Let the next generation have their turn at management. |
