Stafford County, Kansas
Yeah but as cheap as hay has gotten here this year, and I f
Forsee ddg's getting real cheap by mid winter, a guy could easily feed cows through the summer for $1.30-$1.40/head/day in a dry lot situation. Very competitive to whatpasture rent is going for. I would drylot in summer, and take advantage of any dryland Sudan you could graze or maybe CRP. Then keep two circles of stalks for cows leading up till calving then kick out on irrigated rye as soon as they have a calf. Run some stockers on whatever excess rye you've got.
