As the dosage of morphine gets stronger and stronger at each dose the respiration and heart rate drops until the body ceases to function--------------------Even at that it seems to take lots more time due to the family needing to say their goodbyes.I know several states have nursing home rules that state if the quality of life is gone with either a terminal disease or a injury from a fall and dementia is present hospice will automatically take over. My first wife is in Tx now and 2 years ago she decided after her mom had fallen in the nursing home as well as having dementia to elect the hospice route instead of surgery to repair the broken collar bone---------------I struggled with the decision knowing though the ex is a cruel heartless witch that she has demonstrated to her kids as well as others in her family for years. Her mom complained of intense pain for the first 12 hours and was dead in 24
