Seems the sentiments are pretty consistent: Don't cut cost, maximize returns.

I would expect growers to be evaluating every part of their crop production practices and choose those things that provide the protection against the greatest losses, maybe do more scouting for corrective solutions and less on blanket insurance type treatments. Every dollar spent needs to provide a positive return, not just cover costs.

Over the years I've noted that the most successful farms are those that seem to maximize yields every year. Not to say they are putting a "Kip Cullers" plot on every acre but they are not in the business of touting the lowest input costs.

The fundamentals of genetics well place, well planted, controlled diseases, insects and weeds with proper fertility can't be forgotten.
