and plant it. Seems to me they patented traits not the whole soybean plant. Find a public number and your seed cost went from $60/acre to $9/acre. If I am wrong on this, it is not right. The soybean was around way before Monsanto came along.


Most soybean varieties are protected. The private breeders want the reward for their work. You are correct about public varieties, if they have no traits other than RR1 they can be saved. My bother got some public RR1 beans this year, we'll see how they yield. If they are within 4 bpa of the average then we might consider going that route. We have fanning mills and can clean and size seed ourselves.
