"Many spring wheat fields are approaching heading. The weather has been wet and cool, and the prospect for high yield, if the fields escape fusarium head blight, is good. However, with the increased yields and probable N loss, protein content may not reach 14%. Even if the protein premium is not great, the discounts for low protein may be great. My recommendation for consistent protein enhancement in spring wheat/durum is to apply 10 gallon UAN (30 pounds of N per acre) with broadcast flat-fan nozzles immediately post-anthesis. Cut the UAN with 10 gallon of water, apply in the cool of the day. Expect some superficial leaf burn. If the supplier has urea solution available for a reasonable price, there will be less burn with it compared to UAN. Do not apply low volumes of slow-release N fertilizers unless you are willing to apply 30 pounds of N per acre with them also. There is no N efficiency advantage to using these products over UAN or urea solution."
According to this liquid urea solution should be less burn
I posted this same thing in another protein thread so please excuse if it seems repetitative.
