Subject: 30" soys planted on an angle in tilled soil? What am I missing?

I've seen just a few fields around here where there are 30" beans planted on an angle in tilled soil. Then they were sprayed straight and beans were ran over the whole time. What is the benefit of planting them this way? I could see it if they were no till but even then I'd just scoot over and plant between the old corn rows.
