Subject: RE: Soil Amendment for Hard Clay?

South Eastern VA
This is a field I bought about four years ago. I met the elderly black man that used to farm it and I asked about former soil tests. His reply was "soil test?"

It had never been tested and every year he would apply 100 lbs of 10-10-10 per acre because that's what his dad an his dad's dad would do. When I got my first test back the ph was 4.2 and how he ever got anything to grow on it is a wonder to me.

Basically he grew weeds and that was about it. Had collards and sweet corn the year before I got it.

Every spring he would plow it, disc it three times and field cultivate it twice. Been a challenge to say the least.
