Subject: Soil Amendment for Hard Clay?

South Eastern VA
So I have a field and I want to fix a few small patches. This is mainly an experimental thing so I have three options. This is only my forth year owning it as well.

The field grows good corn for the most part but there are a couple ugly spots that turn hard and ugly in the summer months,(Ugly bare red clay that repels water). The field gets notilled and is continuos corn to help build underground organic matter. When the corn is done I spread a mix of annual ryegrass, crimson clover and tillage radish.

I was think of three things to try. Surface spread Alfalfa pellets, gypsum pellets or pelleted chicken manure. These spots are less than an acre each and I can't get fresh manure so that's why I chose pelleted type.

Let's assume the price would be the same for all three so it isn't an issue either. Is there a better recommendation from anyone? Would a humic product work better?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
