Subject: RE: LASIK eye surgery

West Central Illinois

I just had cataract lens implants two weeks ago. The day after the surgery both eyes were 20/15, I think they are even better now. It cost $5000 total for the multifocal lenses since insurance only covers standard lenses. It was worth it to me for the multifocal lenses. The standard would be basically like lasik (although the improvement is permanent, unlike lasik.)

I had decided against lasik many years ago because I didn't want to have 14 pairs of cheap reading glasses laying around getting scratched. I may or may not need weak readers for mid-distance computer work, but it's less of a problem always having those sitting on my desk.

Several people consoled me about having cataracts, but I said it is the best thing to ever happen to me. Everyone should be so lucky. No glasses for the first time since 2nd grade.

I can't wait to pick out a good pair of Ray Ban sunglasses.e

I've never heard of someone having elective cataract lens implants, but I would do that if possible before lasik. (Assuming astigmatism isn't a problem.)
