| The house my parents built in 1962 was a walkout basement and single story.
The difference was the walkout basement was the kitchen. Basically the southwest corner of the basement was the door facing south then there are three single windows side by side along the south wall and one window on the west wall. It makes for a very bright kitchen.
The house is 24 by 50 with the kitchen 12 by 30. The part behind the kitchen is utility room and bathroom. The part on the east end is basement.
The upstairs or main floor is three bedrooms and living room with a full bathroom.
This setup worked real well as a farm house as we lived downstairs until evenings when we would watch tv and sleep.
The dirt and smell of a dairy farm stayed down out of the living room and bedrooms.
