The only thing he uses on his tomatoes are the ashes from his fire pit. Not sure if there's any more to it but his tomatoes are 5 feet tall and loaded. He just lightly dusts the ground with the ashes and mixes it in.

+1 on the ashes. I use a mixture of things and one is the ashes from wood burnt in the smoker. Composted chicken manure helps a lot also. I build tall and wide hills that I later cover with wood chips after planting the plants. My plants are huge, but so are the amount and size of the fruit. Have to use sturdy,tall wire cages. I have fruit all the way until frost. When the summer heat turns up high I install shade cloth to keep the heat from killing the plants. It's removed when the days are no longer as hot. This is in Texas, so it may not cool off until October or November.
Bird netting is a must here or else the Mockingbirds and squirrels have a feast. |
