Northern Nebraska | Tomatoes and vine plants are very prone to blossom end rot. Too much n not enough calcium uptake is my guess. Not that there might not be plenty there but if the plant can't get enough calcium in the first couple days after pollination buds can abort ir if they do survive get blossom end rot soon after.
Now if you think it may be a light problem try red plastic mulch. There are many horticultural papers showing that tomatoes produce more if they can get extra red light. Maybe that may get enough light to the plant early to counteract the later shading.
On the pinching off part dont pinch the main vine but secondary or tertiary vines shouls be removed for maximum yield. Also trellising, caging or training vines on poles can increase Yield. | |
