Really only complaint that I have from that era of trucks is the oiler in the transfer case. It would rub a hole in side of case. They came out with a update oil slinger for it. It seemed to wear a hole in those that never really were used in 4x4. GM didn't change the transfer case design I thought until 08'. I've beat the heck out of my GM trucks, the front ends have held up really well in them. Unlike the Fords or Dodges did for me. They all have their problems, but I sure wouldn't be scared of a GM product.
