NE Iowa | Since the goal is to understand the moisture of the corn in the bin, I actually measure the moisture of the corn in the bin.
I've got a few old coffee cans that I throw into a backpack, and after the corn cools I climb into the bin to get a few samples. Typically, I'll dig down about 8" to try to get a reprsentative sample. But, this requires that you havre a few different bins that you can rotate your hot corn into so that it's got time to cool and get tested before you dump more corn into it.
But, with all that said, I've found that when the corn comes out of the drier at around 135, it'll drop about 1 - 1.25 points after it's cooled in the bin. That rule of thumb seems work almost 100% of the time.
