IMO, in order to get widespread acres left idle projected income has to be less than projected expenses for putting a crop in, land costs NOT included and honestly equipment you already have can be disregarded as well.
So lets just take $300/acre for example on 200 bpa aph ground. That works out to $1.50 before the crop doesn't cover the inputs.
