Subject: RE: Spring Tillage for Continuous Corn

Morris, IL
Spring coulter strip tillage would be my first choice. That or spring plowing. Our old IH 720 has a harrow we could run for spring, hit it with harrowgator (heavy fixed bar drag) at just the right time and you could plant. Was common around here years and years ago. I would have never figured it work but i saw it work on some ground we can't field cultivate in the spring without making concrete and the above program worked. I would not run a ripper, that doesn't work real well in our soils. Whatever you do, you need to wait till conditions are right or forget it and plant beans.
