Kill it small or Kill it tall or plant into it green but whatever you do don't kill it after about 8" tall unless you have planted it because if it gets wet you will have a bog. and there are a bunch more exceptions to the rule. I suspect you are going to beans. If you are going to corn nitrogen and sulfer ,management have to be considered in all that was said. You also have to consider your soil type, is it well drained, and how thick the cereal rye is. Cereal rye is the easiest to establish cover but has the most variables to manage in the spring.
