Our rye is the first thing we kill. It kills easy under 12" and in about 1-2 weeks you won't even beable to tell rye was ever there. Plants great. If you let it get stemmy like said above you will need to plant green or after it has turned to straw. If it is in between those stages you will get the hair pinning effect. We have also seen nutrient deficiencies in the small corn when we let the rye get too big. Not sure if the rye is sucking up the fertilize and not realeasing it back to the corn quick enough. With all that said our best luck has been to kill rye quick.
