Northwest Indiana
Don't live in Illinois but why is everyone so reluctant to get a CDL? It shows your somewhat competent, have basic knowledge of a truck, and are in decent health. If your getting in a semi that is 80k lbs, tandem 54k, straight 30k you should have a CDL in my opinion. On the flip side not all CDL drivers are great either but taking a heavy truck on the road comes with a lot of responsibilities. We as farmers already are in a gray area with the whole farm plate/commercial plate issue so why not get a CDL and at least show your skilled to drive such a vehicle.. What type of transmission a truck has shouldn't really have a bearing, its all about shear size and weight that is the concern.. I have mine and technically I don't really need it but why not get it?
