Subject: Re: Hay grinding vs processing

Driftless SW Wisconsin

I am finding this year that if I just put out two days' worth of hay at a time and don't put out more until I can see the ground in their current feed ring or cradle that I seem to be using less hay. This is compared to putting out a weeks worth at a time.

With a weeks worth of hay out they seem to pick through it to get to the best more than with less hay out. With less out they seem to clean it up better.  My hay tests sufficient for cows so they don't really need anything else.

We do need to consider hay quality - can't expect them to clean up spoiled, moldy hay.

That restricted access time is an interesting idea. Thank you. Interesting thread comparing different approaches and levels of equipment, time etc to feed beef cattle.
