I guess I don't get what I am missing. If the father had not died how much would the father and son have each recieved at the end of the year? Why is the sister considered greedy if she wants the same percentage of the value of the crop as she now has ownership of the land? If she now owns 50% of the land she should get 50% of the profits from the crops.

I rent the ground that my parents own from my parents. I pay the entire cash rent on Dec 1. I have 1 sister. If my parents die on September 1 my sister would be entitled to the entire rent that I would have paid to my parents on the land that she now owns. I would not say that my parents died on Sept 1 so you only owned the land for 1/4 of the year so I am only going to pay you 1/4 of the rent on your acres that I would have paid my parents.
