Yes you can use the clutch pedal and you wont hurt anything. You can also move the shift lever directly from neutral to your desired gear in one motion without using the clutch pedal. This also works pretty good shifting between forward and reverse but sometimes it is better to pause a second or so in neutral to allow the modulator to reset.
