We had the same problem a few years ago and we caught the dog, tied a 3# coffee can to his tail put a few small rocks in it. Took the can and hit it against his back legs lightly and turned him loose.. I will say I never saw a dog run that fast before or after and he never came back.... We still laugh about it till this day.. The dogs owner was glad we did it instead of shooting him.
