Here's the answer to that problem. Apple also sells a wireless Bluetooth keyboard that will pair up with the iPad.

Does Mom write letters that she has to print out or are these emails? If they need to be printed, they's have to be transferred to a computer first - unless you take advantage of the new Airprint capability, but you'd need a printer designed to work with that technology. There are a few on the market already, recently released.
